The noise of the cars, the rumors of passers-by, and the buzz coming from the squares seem a distant memory. We leave civilization behind to enter a place that may seem primitive in appearance. Still, as we go deeper, we discover that every breath that enters and leaves the body moves in perfect harmony with the stillness and the rhythm of the surrounding nature. We are in the Valle Delle Ferriere, the Oriented Nature Reserve (R.N.O) of the Amalfi Coast: a place of uncontaminated beauty, which through its landscapes and its silence, brings anyone who crosses it back to the simple essence of life.
Valle Delle Ferriere – Naturalistic botanical path between rivers and waterfalls is the second walking tour signed Authentic Amalfi Coast. An itinerary organized in collaboration with Cartotrekking, where an expert guide will accompany walkers to discover one of the area’s natural wonders.
From the heart of the city to that of mother nature
The appointment is for 6 September at the historic Piazza Duomo of Amalfi, the starting point of the entire route. From here, you will cross the historic center of Amalfi, perceiving the cultural and artistic history of the Amalfi Coast, and then find yourself in front of the path that leads into the Valle dei Mulini. Of easy level, and suitable for everyone, along the walk, you will find yourself contemplating, with the innocence and amazement of a child. This lush vegetation characterizes the whole valley, surrounded by small streams and mossy waterfalls until you enter the most “protected” area: the Integrated Natural Reserve. Here it will be tempting to place your hands along the petrified moss walls, which will be immediately replaced by the frenzy of taking some photos of Woodvardia Radicans, a kind of prehistoric fern. Continuing the walk, you will reach one of the highest points of the reserve from where you can enjoy the view of Amalfi, with its defenses of lemon groves, until you get to the Canneto river, famous for its waterfalls and its rare plants.
In the center of history
After visiting the entire Valley and the Nature Reserve, we arrive at the small medieval village of Pontone (Scala), the oldest town on the Amalfi Coast. It will be possible to climb a staircase and enjoy an extremely panoramic view. From this point, after a short meditative stop, the descent towards Amalfi begins again. The tones of this ring excursion will change. If before what dazzled the view was the sight of the surrounding landscape, we will be fascinated by history. The path leads to the ruins of the ancient paper mills used to produce the famous Carta d’Amalfi (paper made by a medieval system), reaching the Paper Museum, pride of the old cultural, artistic, and economic tradition Coast. Slowly we will abandon the wealth of the past to return to the city of Amalfi. There the magnificence of the past has been harmoniously integrated with the richness of the present life.
